Candy Basomingera Highlights Sports as a Key Industry for Africa’s Development

Candy Basomingera, the Deputy CEO of the Rwanda Convention Bureau (RCB), recently underscored the importance of sports as a strategic industry for Africa’s development. Speaking at the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Season 5 Sahara Conference in Dakar, Senegal, she stressed that sports have the potential to drive economic growth, empower youth, and create sustainable opportunities for the continent.

She pointed out that sports events not only attract tourism but also encourage innovation and foster regional cooperation. Rwanda’s successful hosting of over 70 international sports events since 2021 has generated more than $50 million in revenue, showcasing the significant economic impact of sports.

Basomingera emphasized that, as a key player in this growing industry, sports can provide both social and economic benefits, contributing to Africa’s overall development goals.
