The Government of Rwanda has intensified efforts to repatriate citizens who were trafficked to Southeast Asia, especially Myanmar, after falling victim to human trafficking networks operating scam centers.
So far, at least 10 Rwandan victims have been successfully repatriated, with plans underway to bring back at least five more. These individuals were lured by fake job offers and later forced to work in exploitative conditions under criminal syndicates.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is leading the effort, working with international partners and human rights organizations to locate and assist affected citizens. The Rwandan government is also covering the costs of repatriation and supporting reintegration programs once victims return home.
This move comes in response to increasing reports by the United Nations and regional watchdogs about the alarming scale of trafficking in Southeast Asia, where thousands have been coerced into cybercrime operations and scam activities.
Rwanda’s authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting citizens abroad, enhancing awareness campaigns, and strengthening border controls to prevent future trafficking cases.
