Elon Musk has made headlines again, but this time, it’s not about space exploration or electric vehicles. The billionaire entrepreneur recently confirmed that he will step back from his role in leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), signaling a new chapter for the initiative.
In a candid statement, Musk acknowledged the significant impact DOGE has had on promoting government efficiency but emphasized that it is time for the project to continue without his direct leadership. Musk likened his departure to the concept of Buddhism without the Buddha, suggesting that DOGE is not reliant on a single figure to succeed.
"DOGE is more of a way of life," Musk said during a press interview. "Its core principles can thrive without one leader."
While Musk will no longer play a central role in day-to-day operations, he assured the public that the initiative’s mission is far from over. DOGE, which focuses on reducing government spending and increasing efficiency, will continue to operate as a long-term enterprise, with the structural foundation already in place.
Despite scaling back his leadership, Musk’s comments reflect a strong belief in the initiative’s future. However, he also admitted that DOGE has not yet fully realized its ambitious goals, particularly when it comes to the original $1 trillion target for federal savings. Musk attributed this to the complexity of implementing budgetary reforms on such a vast scale.
In stepping away, Musk plans to focus more on his responsibilities at Tesla and other ventures, although he will remain involved in DOGE's strategic direction in an advisory capacity.
